One Time In Band Camp...

- - Excerpt from ‘REZ’s EDGE’ by Brad Jensen

After the second page of sheet music the trumpets are given a break. As I clear my spit valves, my eye's veer to the front-right and spot Olivia on flute.

Amber hair gently lays along the side of her face and flows down her back. Red lips are pursed over the top of the hole in her silver instrument. Warm air is blown over the opening. Fingers gingerly play along the shaft of her instrument. The keys are softly pushed by delicate flesh on the tips of ten digits. My eleventh digit is arising to the occasion.

With the excitement of the moment my attention turns to the left. Cheryl is playing her Oboe. Dark silky-hair and eyes are atop as she blows into the dark cylindrical instrument. Her cherry Jolly-Rancher lips have the beige stem between them. Amber toned fingers expertly manipulate the levered silver keys. Her hands hold the upright shaft that extends up to her pretty mouth. Her eyes momentarily leave her score and meet mine, and flitter back to the sheet music. I'm caught. Or did I just catch her?

Rick nudges me in the ribs with his elbows. The trumpets are back in! Shit, I missed it.

“Rick, where are we at?,” I whisper.

Rick quickly points to the bar we are at with his left hand and I come back in with buzzing lips upon silver mouth piece. The abrupt interruption of my daydreams sends me off to 'the cold shower'.
